Wildflowers, 2025

Wildflowers is a painting series I started in 2025, referencing archival wildflower cards. Each painting, 35cm x 70cm, captures a different flower, representing growth, rebirth, morning, and loss. In each painting, the flower stands strong and alone, filling the whole canvas, showcasing its power. With my signature pink backgrounds and bold brushstrokes, the paintings encompass the archival past while remaining fresh and exciting.

Flowers are timeless, and in the 20th century, were reinterpreted in art to explore perception and emotion in human experience. Contemporary art takes this further and blends traditional imagery with new techniques, exploring issues such as identity and environment.

Periwinkle, 2025, is the first painting I created for this new collection and shows the soft, cool toned flower against a burgundy background. The delicate balance between blue and purple offer a dreamy feeling, while shades of green surround. The electric pink shines through, offering sparks through the symbolism of everlasting love, remembrance and womanhood. Using the 1900’s illustration, I draw on modern and contemporary reference to develop her stylised painting.

I work often showcase domestic scenes of daily life, and so the wildflowers, curated alongside these figurative works, they almost take a contemporary spin on a momento mori (“mementos of mortality”) or vanitas (“emptiness”), indicating a passing of time.
